It’s Happening Here in Hamilton THIS WEEKEND

Hamilton is set to welcome thousands of visitors with several major events happening across the city May 31-June 2. There is something for everyone to experience this weekend. Here is a list of major events coming to Hamilton.

Battlefield Monument Anniversary & Smith’s Knoll Parade & Service – May 31

Battlefield-MonumentOne of Stoney Creek’s most recognizable landmarks, the 100 foot tall Battlefield Monument was opened in June, 1913, with thousands of people in attendance. Travel back in time 100 years to mark this anniversary, with costumes, music and more.
Time: 12 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cost: $0.25 per person. 1913 prices!

The year 2013 marks the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Stoney Creek, an important battle during the War of 1812 and the only conflict to take place in the Hamilton region. To commemorate this important moment in our city’s history and honour those who fought in the Battle, the City of Hamilton in partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion Battlefield Branch 622, American Legion Post 18 and Her Majesty’s Army & Navy Veterans Society invites the public to attend a Memorial Parade and Service. The service will include a re-dedication of Battlefield Cemetery at Smith’s Knoll. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and is free for all ages. The Parade will begin at 7 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 12 King St E, Stoney Creek, and proceed to Battlefield Cemetery – Smith’s Knoll.  www.hamilton.ca/museums

Battlefield Re-Enactment – June 1 & 2

Battle of Stoney CreekThe year 2013 marks the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Stoney Creek. Experience the drama, pageantry, and excitement of the Battle of Stoney Creek of June 6, 1813, one of the most important events in Canada’s history.  Guests can visit the encampments, interact with early 19th century settlers and soldiers, listen to Indian war hero Tecumseh as he recounts the story of his life, experience historical cooking, dancing and blacksmithing demonstrations, and try period games for the whole family. One-of-a-kind wares will also be sold by Historic Merchants.

Battle Re-enactments take place Saturday, June 1 at 3:30pm & 8:30pm and Sunday, June 2 at 2pm.

Special performances by The Corps of Drums of the Royal Anglian Regiment from England will take place on the Battlefield on Sat. Jun. 1 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and on Sun. Jun. 2 at 1:00 p.m., made possible through funding from the Government of Ontario.

Visitors can take a guided tour through the original 200 year old Gage Homestead and climb up to the 100-foot-tall Battlefield Monument. Entertainment includes music by Ian Bell and Stephen Fuller, period dancing demonstrations by the York Regency Dancers and performances by The Drums, Crown Forces 1812, Rodney the Younger, 18th century Conjurer and Faire Wynds Entertainment.

Saturday, June 1, 10 a.m.- 10 p.m. and Sunday, June 2 from 10 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Cost: $10 for adults. $5 for children. (Cost covers the whole weekend. Wristband provided). One of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivials & Events in 2013.

BREWS N BANDS – June 1

The 2nd annual Brews N Bands festival at the Casbah Lounge gives music fans and craft beer lovers a day to remember. Two separate sessions from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Casbah will be home to some of Ontario’s finest craft beer and Hamilton’s culinary offerings, and will feature live music from The Sadies, The Wooden Sky, The Dinner Belles, Dan Griffin & The Regrets and many more. $25 per session gets you 10 3oz samples and/or food vouchers. Blues & Roots festival in Westdale – June 1

Hamilton Blues & Roots FestivalThe Westdale Village BIA is proud to announce their premiere event of the summer!
